BESS & Hybrid Projects
A bankable storage project is more than a battery purchase
Standalone BESS, hybridisation of operating PV plants and co-location all depend on the same five layers fitting together: technology, grid, revenue, contracts and lifecycle.
Configurations
The project case decides the equipment
Standalone BESS
Grid-connected storage earning from energy and balancing markets and, where eligible, capacity payments.
PV + BESS hybridisation
Storage added to an operating or new PV plant to shift output, use existing grid capacity and reduce curtailment.
Co-location and staged growth
Shared connection points, phased capacity and augmentation planned from the first design.
What we review and coordinate
Five layers, reviewed together
| Layer | Scope | Our contribution |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Cells, racks, containers, PCS, transformers, MV/HV interfaces | Equipment qualification, supplier comparison, warranty coordination |
| Grid | Connection conditions, grid code, NTS certification, protection | Grid-code and certification coordination with specialists and the operator |
| Control and revenue | EMS, PPC, SCADA, metering, dispatch, route to market | Control interfaces defined; route-to-market partner selected and scoped |
| Commercial | Supply, EPC, LTSA and O&M contracts, Incoterms, import obligations | Responsibilities and risks allocated before signature |
| Lifecycle | Availability, degradation, augmentation, serviceability | Long-term performance and service planned from day one |
Reference
PV + BESS in Girona
PV plus battery storage at an industrial site, DC-coupled, energised and connected to the grid. The project obtained an NTS 2.1 grid-code certificate, the first issued in Spain for its power-conversion equipment. Solar-Tec was a founding partner of the project and part of its technology development.
